Designed for students to play one study a week once they have learned the notes in first position. The 36 Wohlfahrt studies are ideal for year two of a school year with four quarters and nine weeks in each quarter, or 36 weeks for the school year. These studies go beyond the first position. The studies are carefully sequenced, becoming slightly more challenging each week. This series is ideal for teaching sight-reading at the intermediate level. To perform these exercises, an individual will need to be able to read all of the notes in the first position on all six strings or be able to read tablature. The keys get gradually harder, the rhythms become more complex, and a variety of time signatures are used. These studies are ideal for weekly playing tests in a school setting.Historically, the guitar was late to the game in terms of musical instrument development and more importantly academic studies. Historically, guitarists have transcribed music that was written for many other instruments including the harpsichord, the violin, the clarinet, and the flute. In comparison to all of the notated music in the world, there is a very small percentage of music written for guitar as a single line. Most music for guitar has been written as polyphony, or multiple moving voices. For a guitar student today to compete with the music reading skills of a violinist, clarinetist, or flutist, it is necessary to learn to play the music written for those instruments. As the title suggests, the best result from using this series comes from learning only one piece per week and learning each of the pieces in the order in which they appear in the book. The end result after 36 weeks is a strong skill for note recognition and finger placement on the guitar. Read more
